What is a background investigation?

All applicants are subject to a background investigation to determine their suitability for employment. The background investigation includes, but is not limited to, a credit history report, a criminal records check and a court registry search. The LGA has the authority to conduct any investigation it deems necessary to determine suitability. Investigations will sometimes require applicant interviews, reference checks and work permit checks.

All applicants who require further investigation are given an opportunity to meet with the LGA to discuss the results of their investigation. Each applicant is reviewed and assessed individually.

Applicants are encouraged to be completely honest on their applications. Investigations that include criminal charges, bankruptcies and civil proceedings do not automatically result in the denial of a licence.
